NaNoWriMo is halfway through and almost everyone is getting right into their stories and books! I'm very excited about my book as it's one of those magical, time-travel style books which reminds me of 'Time & Again' by Jack Finney... very much set in real time and yet set in the magickal times of the other realms.
I hope I captured both worlds well.
I set it in my hometown of Brisbane and in a bookstore - where else would I set it, but in a place I'd love to work.
I've almost finished with the story part of it - as I love to get that part of the book out of the way first before tackling what people look like and the backdrop - and I'll be fleshing it out with the details everyone needs to follow it along in the coming weekend. So far, I've written 16,395 words... which will be expanding to far more by next week!

I am not participating NaNoWriMo, but it is fun to see how it is going for you. It looks like things are going really well for you in terms of your writing. The story setting sound fun and you've written a lot of words so far. Way to go!

I have been trying to get to my 5,000 words a day; and believe me, it's harder than it sounds. I'm lucky to get to 2,000. But at least I'm getting work done and that's the main thing.
Sounds interesting and I like that it is based in Brisbane. It's not a place you often see in books (or perhaps I am reading the wrong books?).

I love setting things in a town I know really well. And some Aussie writers don't use Brisbane very often - often opting to use Melbourne or Sydney as their backdrop due to their history. But seeing Brisbane is such a young city still, it's not without its controversy, history and convict history as well. Fortunately, I've learned some of that, and love to include that in my stories.
DeleteResearching my books by walking around my hometown for a few months is half the fun. :D
I will be editing the book and seeing who will help me publish through a grant in a few years... but really I write for the sheer joy of writing. A lot of my work never sees the light of day. I have about 8 or 9 books which are finished, but nobody have seen because I'm scared nobody will like them.

I know how you feel. I've been writing for as long as I can remember and at near 40 I only just started letting people read them and sending out to publishers and agents. Don't wait that long!

I'm already over 40 and am attracting attention from people who want to read them; whereas when I was in my 30's and a little younger, nobody wanted to know me.
