'Finding Pride' by Jill Sanders

Megan is in Pride to attend her brother's funeral.  Matt had been trying to get her to this lovely little town for years, but she wouldn't come to see him, for reasons of her own; which she kept hidden from him.  But now she's here she with her arm in a cast and covered in bruises, she feels horrible she had kept her own secrets from him.
But the people of Pride have welcomed her with open arms and helped her whenever she needed it.  She quickly became fast friends with Lacey Jordan and her brother Iian; and she totally fell for Todd, their older brother, who she just can't seem to stop thinking about!  But is it too soon after her dreadful divorce in Boston?  
And speaking of which, the trial to put her ex-husband away has yet to come around.  The stress of it has put Megan on edge.  However, her lawyer has ensured her that he's not going to bother again; but really, how secure are their prisons?  And will he get out?  With the arrangements of her new life in Pride, with a new business her brother, Matt, left for her to pick up and her new love interest in Todd (who scares her as well as excites her at the same time), will her new life turn out just as it's supposed to?

I downloaded this book when I was at Brighton recovering from my surgery at Greenslopes Private Hospital.  I didn't want to read anything too heavy; and a light romance seemed just the ticket.  However, as I got into this book - which has a great storyline - I found Jill Sanders had a fair bit of proof-reading to go on it.  There were some major grammatical and spelling errors all the way through the book (dessert - not desert - is for after dinner).  Some words were mixed up and in place of others making otherwise great sentences sound dreadful and off; and they weren't small errors either with these sentences - like leaving 'the' or 'a' out.  Some words were added in when they should have been removed.  Italics undone where it should have been left in as well (which is probably not her fault).  But like I said, the storyline was fantastic... however the love and sex scenes were a bit lost on me and could have done with a bit more description as they weren't as hot as I thought they'd be.  Yeah, Todd was gorgeous, but I couldn't feel the sex or heat between the characters.  It's the first of a trilogy... and it was free off iTunes.  Unfortunately, I don't think I'll be getting the others as they cost money (and I don't have anything in my iTunes account).  Until my next post, happy reading.

Free Books!

Yep, you read right!  But not from me.  I've been getting free books from iTunes for some time now and have thought it high time to spread the word about it.

Now, I know I have said that I don't like e-readers or anything to do with reading on a computer too much.  However, if the books you want to read is massively huge and you wish to take it somewhere with you, it makes sense to put the whole thing on your iPod, iPad or iPhone through the free books on iTunes.  I figured this out when I wanted to download something to read while I was on the bus back from Brunswick Heads; and wanted to read something good.  And instead of spending any money, I typed into the search box: free books.  Well, a ton of them popped up and I was searching through hundreds of books from all kinds of genres.  I was in literary heaven!  How cool is that?

I'm only downloading really big, thick books that I find are too big to carry in my bag onto my iPod.  And once I've finished them, I'll delete them from it to make room for another big thick book I want to download... not a bad plan, right?

And this got me thinking, which books have you all downloaded onto your e-readers or iPods/iPads to read lately - and over the holidays - which you have loved?  With Apple, your downloads are kept in a back-up library, so if you want them back you can re-download them again.  How do you keep your already read e-books?  Are they backed up on a computer?  Or do you delete them once they're finished?  Until my next post, happy reading!  

Christmas/NYE Reads

Over this time of year, no matter where you are in the world, it's always a good time to get in and catch up on your reading.  So, what did you get into?  
As for me?  There was no internet or WiFi to speak of because within the day of me arriving at Brunswick Heads, the free Wifi at the caravan park dumped itself.  Not fun at all!  But it gave me a chance to jump right into the books I took along to read.  And with one paperback book and two on my iPod, I was set to have a good time reading.

'The Life of Pi' is now showing at all the cinemas around the world; however, I wanted to read it first.  I know that sounds like a silly thing to do, but I love to read something before it's been turned into else by a director and screenwriters; before they miss what the author has been trying to tell us all along.  So, I got to read plenty of this book just before turning out the light.
Then, on my iPod, I had 'The Origin of Species' by Charles Darwin.  What a book it is so far!  I do recommend you read the introduction; as it sets up the book for you and he juxtaposes back to the intro all the time throughout the text.  But it's a wonderfully written piece of work; and at over 1,000 pages, I'm glad it's on my iPod and not in real book form or it would seem too much to read.
Another book on my iPod I have is 'Dream Pyschology' by Sygmund Freud.  I've always wanted to read some of his works; and what better works to read than his dream analysis?  I have admired this man for years and now I have a chance to understand him better through this wonderful work; and seeing there was no television, and even less entertaining radio shows around, I had a good chance to sit down by the Brunswick River and read.  In fact, everyone I saw on holidays did exactly that in the afternoons with a cup of coffee or tea by their side.  What a way to enjoy a balmy, afternoon in the shade by the river!  Sitting and reading a book!  Nothing like it!  Until my next post, happy reading!
