In Verse

I do love to read books in verse sometimes; and I don't just mean poetry or sonnets.  I mean books that have a proper story and plot all writte in verse.  'The Monkey's Mask' by Dorothy Porter is one book which comes to mind; and has stuck in my mind, even though I read it in 2010.

However, I'm one of those people who keep not only an online journal, but also a very personal, private, hand-written journal as well.  I have been keeping this kind of journal since 1997, and have recently thought to write in it in verse for a year and see how it turns out.  I'm on my second entry and have found it very much a challenge as I have to call upon how I ordinarily write in the journal and change it completely into a poetry book just for this year!  Have you ever done this kind of thing - or better still, come across anyone else who has?  Until my next post, happy reading!

  1. I've never thought about writing a journal completely in verse... Nor have I come across anyone who has... Not that I have many conversations with people I know about journal writing.

I diligently started keeping a journal from 1983 through 2008... Wow, I just realized that was a 25 year period. Although some years where more sparse than others depending on life events.

I'm right handed and in 2009, I had a strange injury occur, which had made it difficult if not not impossible, to use my right arm and hand from the elbow down. So, journal writing went out the window and hasn't returned yet.

I've been slowly (too slowly imo) returning to full health. Almost 4 years has gone by since the injury and things have improved, not completely, but hopefully I'll start making journal entries once again in the near future.

Good luck with writing in verse.

    1. Wow! It looks like you've been through the wars there. I hope you're feeling better and get back into your journal-writing again. it's so nice to be able to write down your day, feelings and how life is at a particular time of the year, isn't it?

I only thought of this idea of writing my journal entries in verse on Monday night and went with it. When I found it a great challenge for myself, I thought it would be a good way to get my brain working into the way of editing and poetry again, I kept going. I'll see how far I can go before I go back to ordinary writing again - if I ever do! :D

    2. Yes, been through a lot for sure. There is light at the end of the tunnel though as It looks like I'll make a full recovery, which is great news. I've worked hard to take back use of my arm, hand and fingers and this makes it all worthwhile. :-)
